Telecommuting has become a widely used method and reflects one of the recent global trends adopted by many States to provide employment opportunities and reduce the proportion of unemployment to many sectors and individuals, especially women and people of concern, and contribute to society’s development and the achievement of sustainable development.

Online work is a means of working using information and communication technology; so that work is performed away from Headquarters in a permanent, partial or need-based manner, especially in times of crisis that require remote work, such as task force management, meetings and the operation of some remotely available systems.

Telework before and after the coronavirus crisis:

According to figures and statistics, about 45% teleworkers had moved into this pattern of work as a result of the crisis and its direct effects. The area of teleworking nearly doubled in 2020, an undoubtedly unprecedented growth rate that left its impact even after the pandemic.

Interestingly, about 82% of companies that have moved to telecommuting have made their transition smoothly and this percentage is greater than expected given that many companies rely on old methods or software to organize themselves and complete their business, Thus, moving to an environment that allows remote access to staff possesses inevitable challenges. And perhaps the underlying justification for this is the existence of many cloud services and infrastructure ready to help companies digitize and move to activate online work.

Online working Objectives:

– Raising morale and improving the quality of work: Many studies have confirmed that the psychological state of workers affects the performance of their work. Working alongside colleagues can strain a worker’s psyche by sometimes having uncomfortable colleagues, and here he is unable to concentrate and work thus affecting the productivity of the worker

– Cost reduction.

– Expansion of prospects for employees and employers: the application of this policy frees employers from seeking competencies within the geographical area.

– Increased working hours and increased productivity.

– The use of distinguished cadres.

– Rarity of resignation.

– Flexibility of work.

The benefit to society and young people if the culture of telecommuting is strengthened:

– Investing, utilizing and employing the human potential of society.

– Employment opportunities for young people with an adequate income.

– Raising awareness and educating young people helps them overcome difficulties in obtaining employment in traditional ways.

– Saving time, effort, transportation costs and vacuum exploitation.

– Providing more time for the care of the family and the requirements of family ties.

– Reduction of unemployment rates.

– Reduce the migration of young people out of the country and benefit from them in the development of their society.

– Increased productivity as a result of the use of modern technology.

– Improving young people’s lives and preventing them from going awry

In 2016, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development supported telecommuting as a platform for telecommuting

Statistics then indicated an increase in the proportion of the program’s sponsors each year than before.

The platform offers the following services: job seekers: providing a CV building service for the researcher and applying for remote work jobs Installations: registering in the portal and contracting with service providers, offering jobs available for remote work service providers: registering in the portal and contracting with establishments wishing to hire remote workers, and providing the necessary reports for follow-up and monitoring.

Platform Link:

https://hrsd.gov.sa/ar/queries/%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D9%85%D9%84-%D8%B9%D9%86-%D8%A8%D8%B9%D8%AF

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development also published the Procedural Manual for Telework

Its objective is to elaborate on the decision to work remotely, the support programmes provided by the human resources and social development system, as well as to answer the most common questions.

The Saudi worker is required to calculate the percentage of settlement calculated in the “Ranges” program at a rate of not less than 4,000 SAR per month, since the process of calculating the worker “remotely” is not different from the traditional factor in the ranges.
